When our bodies take in a large amount of sugar, such as after dessert or carbonated drinks, our blood sugar levels shoot up. This leads to glycation, which is when an excess of sugar directly attaches to proteins in the body, forming an irreversibly beige-yellow substance known as AGEs, or Advanced Glycation End Products. AGEs cause proteins to lose their original structure and color, becoming weaker and yellow-tinted.
In the skin, our collagen is most affected: post-glycation, oxidation increases and leads to a loss of collagen, aging the skin and making it appear dull and yellow, with less bounce and more wrinkles.

Additionally, sugar dehydrates the body – through a simple process of diffusion, it interrupts the flow of water molecules in the skin, causing the skin to become looser and duller. This leads to the formation of aggravating wrinkles and dark circles.
Not only does glycation encourage insulin production and a subsequent rise in testosterone levels (and more acne), it also encourages the body to produce insulin-like growth factors, leading to oil overproduction and clogged pores, irritation and worsened acne.

Foam It Up! A How-To Guide
Foaming properly is half the job done. If you start washing your face without first foaming, your hands are more likely to tug on your skin, irritating sensitive skin. Foam acts like a soft, thick sponge, absorbing impurities and allowing you to wash and cleanse, worry-free. There are 3 ways to create a rich, airy layer of foam: by using your hands, a foaming cloth, or a foam maker.
1. Hands
First, take a peanut-sized (~1cm) amount of Hydro-Power Brightening Cleanser and add a small dollop of water, roughly the volume of a $5 coin. Use your fingers to trace circles, spreading it out to add air and let it foam. Cup your hand and add 2-3 drops of warm water, then make a whisking motion like beating eggs. Repeat 2-3 times for a foam that stands tall at medium-stiff peaks!

Just using your hands to foam properly isn’t a task for the weak of heart! Using tools is also a good choice: not only does it save time, you also get more foam, making your skincare routine even cleaner.
2. Foaming Cloth
Rinse the foaming cloth to make it wet, then squeeze on a peanut-sized amount (~1cm) of Hydro-Power Brightening Cleanser and rub in a circular motion with your hands. It only takes 20 seconds to form a sizable foam; take the cloth in one hand and sweep downwards with the other to collect the foam.
*Note that the frequency with which you change your foaming cloth will vary! If you use it every day, we recommend using a new one every 2-3 months to avoid bacteria buildup and skin irritation.
3. Foam Maker
Add a peanut-sized amount (~1cm) of Hydro-Power Brightening Cleanser into the foam maker then add water in a 1:6-1:9 ratio, adjusting accordingly. Place the lid on and pump to create rich, airy foam!

- Gently cleanse the sides, tip and bridge of your nose, and your chin
- Then rub small circles into your T-zone and forehead, out to your temples
